Vol. 2 No.51 January 30, 2000
"... I have felt a presence that disturbs me with the joy Of elevated thoughts; a sense sublime Of something far more deeply interfused, whose dwelling is the light of setting suns, And the round ocean and the living air, And the blue sky and in the mind of man. A motion and a spirit; that impels All thinking things, all objects of all thought, And rolls through all things. Therefore am I still A lover of the meadows and the woods, And mountains; and of all that we behold From this green earth; of all the mighty world, Of eye and ear-both what they half create, and what perceive; well pleased to recognize In nature and the language of the sense the anchor of my purest thoughts, the nurse, The guide, the guardian of my heart, and soul Of all my moral being." William Wordsworth, Lines (Tintern Abbey) 1798

John Takes the Cake at Decathlon

Medal-Laden Hero of the Head Set

Playing to an overflow crowd Saturday night at Garland South High School, our John was honored again and again for his accomplishments at the regional meet of the National Academic Decathlon competition, in which he took a first place medal in his category for the essay competition, a second in math and a couple of thirds in social science and personal interview. The team from Highland Park HS also took a team third in the Super Quiz competition, which ended two gruelling days of exams and interviews and speech presentations in the brain competition. We are so proud of you, John!

Cousin Acknowledges Uncomfy Trait

After a family dinner party following a regional conference of the Church at SMU's Moody Auditorium (which was attended by 9,500 members of the six stakes of the north Dallas region), our dear cousin Doug Taylor, who with his wife Clyde expects his first child, a daughter, in March; delineated a Taylor family trait which has until now gone largely unacknowledged. As they prepare for the birth, however, it's best to get it out on the table: TAYLOR BABIES HAVE BIG HEADS! The preceding diagram represents the inevitable challenge to be faced by yet another member of the clan as she struggles with an issue with which many of us have already come to grips... (How else to house those incredible brains!)

Mary Prepares for Next Phase...

Aided by friends and helpers, our Mary of Provo is now
preparing applications for positions in varying marine biology jobs from the coast of Maine to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Set to graduate from BYU in the spring of 2000, she is actively trying to figure out where and what she will be doing as she enters the world as a self supporting young woman. Heartened by the fact that she was one of the top finishers in her latest molecular biology final exam, she is gaining increased confidence in her ability to go out into the world and find her way with the rest of the herd. We are proud of her for the fact that she has been taking care of her own needs and paying her way already at BYU. We salute you, Mary!

Allreds Prepare for Dallas Move

The Editor is nearly beside herself in anticipation of the upcoming move of daughter Allison Allred and her family from Elmhurst, IL to the environs of Dallas as they begin the next chapter of their family adventure. Aaron has taken a position in the legal department of a natural gas company and has already begun work from his office in Chicago, where his former employers have generously offered him office space to work for the new firm; with whom they are quite interested in doing business. After selling their home in a record 1 & 1/2 week's time (Allie just kept asking herself, "What would Lynne do?) a reference to our great friend and former realtor, the inimitable Lynne Ohrn, who was of such great help to us in selling our homes in CT . That being accomplished, she is now free to

travel to Dallas to find a home, finish her master's degree at U. of Chicago, deliver her fourth child, and complete the move to the area, all by the end of April. Sounds like a plateful.....

Morphii Prepare for Birth

February 17th is the date for the sonogram which will hopefully reveal the gender of the first of the children of Matt and Catherine. Glowingly beautiful at 4 1/2 months along, our Catherine is busily reading her copy of What to Expect When You're Expecting, and fantasizing about what's ahead. She is working hard to prepare the nursery for the little Someone, due June 30 of this year. We join them in breathless anticipation of the Blessed Event!

Benac Family Tractor

In faraway India, our friend Bill Sheffield sits astride the Benac Family Tractor, which we feature here for the very first time! Thanks to our own Daddy Bill for contributing this important piece of equipment to the agricultural facility of the Pathway Orphanage in Madras. The goal of the 60-acre facility is to provide a means of complete self sustenance for the inhabitants of the community of handicapped patients. We salute our friend Bill Sheffield for his efforts to marshall his friends' support for this very worthy cause!

Nubs Dissects

Under the able supervision of our friend, Dr.Bob Fine, and joined by his daughter and close friend, Becca, our Nubbins lately had the privilege of dissecting a real sheep's brain after a semester of study of the brain and its functions in her Explorations class for the gifted set at Armstrong School. Wow. Who gets THAT in 4th grade?!
