"I try to imagine how many times [a worker bee] must fly from the hive to the tiglioto make even a tablespoon of honey. A thousand times? A jar must represent a million flights of bees carrying a heavy cargo of honeydew, their legs sticky with pollen...Vergil writes that bees lift small stones to ballast themselves as they fly through boisterous east winds...I like the image of a bee clutching a small stone, like a football player holding the ball to his chest as he barrels down the field." The Great-Grands Pay a Visit

We were honored this month by a festive visit by our dear grandparents Benac of Ft. Myers, Florida. Grandpa Bill and Grandma Helen were in town especially for a performance of cousin Ruth Ashurst, who starred in a school production in Plano. An additional highlight of the weekend was the opportunity for all to gather at the home of Aunt Liz and Uncle Earl Ashurst to watch the proceedings of the General Conference of the Church which was broadcast in two-hour segments to the assembled snugglers, who gathered in an upstairs family room and the master bedroom, where they had a mass snuggle interrupted by a delicious family meal. The day ended with the arrival of the Allred Clan, who joined us for an evening dinner prepared by Aunt Liz with salad and dessert courtesy of the Allreds and Dallas Benacs. It was truly a memorable experience based on a simple relaxing family time together for which we will be forever grateful!

Bethany Accepted into Paris Program

Our travel-loving Bethany has charmed her way into the BYU Semester Abroad program for the winter in Paris, France, where she will live with a family during a semester of studies. We are so excited to see the way her life is developing and look forward to sharing in her excitement with a possible visit to her Parisian digs over the next few months!

Editor Earns Good Grades Date

An old family tradition was recently revived after the Editor herself attained a perfect score on a midterm in her Modern European and American Painting class at SMU, where she is currently pursuing her Master's Degree. She and Allison celebrated over a delicious Mexican meal presented at the chi chi Abuelos' Restaurant, where Allie presented her with a lovely bouquet of brightly-hued zinnias grown from seed by grandson William Allred in their backyard garden!

Daddy Bill Partners with CA Company

Our bringer-home-of-bacon recently travelled to Sioux Falls, SD for the last time to award gold medals to the members of the Board of Directors and officers of United CreditServ Bank, which was recently sold after a dramatic and successful turnaround. A Washington lobbyist in attendance thanked the battle-weary business leaders for their successful efforts to preserve more than a thousand jobs in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota economy.

His next venture will be as Executive VP of the Grass Valley Group, an international producer of video broadcasting equipment.

Caroline Joins Dallas Cotillion

Our little Nubbins became the Ninth of the Nine to enter into ballroom dance instruction, locally known as The Dick Chaplin Cotillion, where she dresses to the Nines, wears white gloves, partakes of cookies and punch, and generally looks like a little princess. Here she is before her very first dance lesson, after discovering her hair had fallen into lovely unexpected curls after a day worn in a bun at the State Fair.

Annie Leaves Split

Our dear missionary, Annie, who has served so faithfully for the past few months in Split, Croatia, has been transferred to the town of Rijecka, where our Croatian relatives live. She has been the Relief Society President in Split, and will be sorely missed by her friends and co-laborers there.

Write her at her new address:
