"At the heart of the message of the Savior of the world is a single, glorious, wonderful, still largely untried concept,. In its simplest terms the message is that we should seek to overcome the selfishness we all seem to be born with, that we should overcome human nature and think of others before self." James L. Holiday Cheer All Around

As usual, the holidays are a happy blur inside which the Benac bodies spin joyfully, sometimes veering a bit out of control as we try to balance all our activities and adventures together! This year our Christmas season is made even more delightful as we prepare for the wedding on the 29th of our Sarah and her beau, Adam Flake. Back in Dallas, the Gang celebrated in a number of ways, including a Suzuki violin concert at Northpark Mall at which Caroline shone, along with the other Suzuki Darlings, at her instrument!

It Isn't All Joy and Cheer

William had his moments of glory and his times of despair, as shown above, when he realized he couldn't have all the presents he laid eyes on at F.A.O. Schwartz during the holiday season. This is a tough lesson, but is well-learned at an early age, Pal! Little Jack is sad for yet another reason; he's cutting some more adorable teeth!

William Debuts as the Jolly Postman

Yet another thespian is flowering among the Benac Throng! Our own William Benac Allred, son of Allison and Aaron, took the starring role in the Miller Elementary School production of The Jolly Postman, long a family literary favorite. He found the role quite to his liking and declared that now he is certain he would like to BE a postman when he grows up! Just don't go postal on us, Will!

Daddy Bill Lets His Hair Down

We expected it would happen sooner or later....after working in California so much of the time, our Dear Dad has begun to look and act like a native of the hippiesque mining town of Nevada City, where he works for the high tech company, the Grass Valley Group. We've heard of Casual Day, but this is ridiculous. Don't get on the plane till you get your hair cut, Man! (Bet you haven't heard that in awhile!

Candy House of the Century

Does anyone realize just how difficult it is to make a gingerbread house that actually stands up and doesn't collapse when one begins to load it up with frosting and candy? No one better than Caroline, who finally accepted help from the Editor in putting together a second house after the first fell like a house of cards; just in time for the arrival of the missionaries for dinner. We were gratified to be able to use it as a centerpiece for our table!

Annie Loses Sight-Temporarily

Our dear missionary,, Our brave Annie of Rijeka found herself suffering so intensely from over-use of contact lenses that she temporarily lost the use of one eye (can you guess from the picture which one?) We join her in the general rejoicing in that she is now going about without her pirate-like head wrap which piquantly hid the afflicted part. She and Catherine have just celebrated their 23rd birthdays on this very day! (Not too late to send one of those belated birthday cards to either twin!
