Vol. 2 No. 62 May 24, 2000

Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey towards it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us. Hope sweetens the memory of experiences well loved. It tempers our troubles to our growth and our strength. It befriends us in dark hours, excites us in bright ones. It lends promise to the future and purpose to the past. It turns discouragement to determination.

Annie Returns with Honor

After serving a year and a half as a missionary in Croatia, our Annie flew into Dallas to be greeted by the Allred/Benac contingent of the Fam. Stepping into embraces and a dozen red roses, she was welcomed with awe and enthusiasm, and motorcaded back to the house for a delicious family celebratory dinner. We look forward to having her here in Dallas until her return to school in New York this coming fall.

Yoga Takes the Fam by Storm

It seems that the benefits of Yoga are becoming more and more obvious to the world at large. The Benacs have certainly gotten in on the act, with more and more of the Fam trying out even the more difficult poses. Check out our latest practicioners of the challenging "bound lotus" position! (Only actual unretouched photos are used in this newsletter!) See the Editor practicing "The Plow". Can YOU do this? (Do you Care?)

John Graduates from HPHS

The Family was pleased to participate in a wonderful high school graduation ceremony this month at SMU's Moody Coliseum, where John became the sixth Benac to graduate from that excellent school. Our dear Grandparents Benac drove all the way from Florida to be there for the event, which was celebrated beforehand with a dinner al fresco on the banks of White Rock Lake during the Dallas Arboretum's annual "Garden of Music." We were joined for that leg of the evening by the Allred Family, and enjoyed seeing the little ones cavort on the grounds of the rollings hills of the beautiful Arboretum. Little Sam made himself dizzy rolling down grassy hills and the general atmosphere was one of profound gratitude for the beautiful place in which we live!

Ashley's Humiliation

Imagine our chagrin when we took Ashley to the groomers to get her all spiffed up for Annie's return, only to find that they completely shaved all her fur off! The revelation of many unsightly bumps, age spots and a new, less-pleasing silhouette caused us all such dismay that the Editor went right to work sewing a wardrobe for the unfortunate pup, to tide her over till her fur grew back to socially acceptable levels.

Sarah and Adam Move to Ann Arbor

That's right! Our dear Flake Family has accepted a scholarship to the U. of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, MI, and has safely arrived in their new location. Members of the Fam will shortly receive their address and phone info. We wish them all the best success as they begin the next phase of their lives!

More Grandchildren On the Way

Allison and Catherine announce the impending births of two more grandchildren, both due within a day of each other in mid January of 2002. We are so thrilled to see our children taking the familial "leap of faith" and joining the Divine Struggle as parents! We love you all and love to see your familes grow!
